If your company is not a member of OMA, this page will guide you on how to apply for Membership, what it costs to join OMA and the benefits of being a member.


Membership Application

Joining the Open Mobile Alliance requires the completion of a membership application and the payment of applicable dues. Please note that membership applications take approximately 10 business days to be approved.

Industry Segments

All OMA member companies fall into an industry segment categories. There are 4 categories that define various parts of the end-to-end value chain. OMA defines the industry segments as follows:

  • Operators & CDMA Operators
  • Wireless Vendors
  • IT/Applications/Software Vendors
  • Content Media, Financial and/or Service Providers and Other

The benefits of being a member differs from one category to another. The categories and their benefits are:

Operators: Persons who are licensed and allocated frequency to operate a public mobile wireless telecommunications network for the purpose of providing publicly available commercial services and any industry organizations whose principal objective is to represent the interests of such persons and Operator Category shall be construed accordingly

CDMA Operators: Operators that provide telephony and data services using code division multiple access based on IS-95 and IS-2000 technologies, including future evolved versions of these technologies

Wireless Vendors: Persons who are manufacturers of communications products for wireless networks and any industry organizations whose principal objective is to represent the interests of such persons and Wireless Vendor Category shall be construed accordingly

IT/Applications/Software Vendors: Persons who are manufacturers of information technology or software or applications products for wireless networks and any industry organizations whose principal objective is to represent the interests of such persons and IT Vendor Category shall be construed accordingly

Content Media, Financial and/or Service Providers and Other: Persons who are providers of content media, financial and/or value added services for wireless networks and any other person or persons to the extent that such persons cannot be categorized into any other Category and any industry organizations whose principal objective is to represent the interests of such persons and Content/Other Category shall be construed accordingly.

Levels of Membership

OMA membership fees are based on a tiered system of membership levels. Benefits of participation in OMA vary among the different levels of membership. Please refer to the OMA Membership Guidelines for a detailed explanation for each level. Please view the Open Mobile Alliance Membership Matrix to get a better understanding of theses benefits.

The prices for level of participation are as follows:

  • Sponsor Members = $85,000 USD
  • Full Members = $39,000 USD
  • Associate Members = $9,000 USD
  • Supporter Members = $600 USD
  • Explorer Members = $650 USD

Annual membership fees are based upon the calendar year, January 1 through December 31. For members joining in the middle of the year, a pro-rated invoice based upon the number of months remaining will be invoiced. Companies who join from October through December will be issued a fee equivalent to one quarter of the full-year membership price. Only Sponsor and Full Members may nominate and vote for individuals as Directors. Sponsor Members occupy seats on the OMA Board of Directors. Full Members may also join the Board, but only if they are elected to do so.

Associate Members have more limited rights than Sponsor and Full Members. Supporters have more limited rights than Associate Members. Details of the respective membership rights are set out in the company's Articles of Association and in the schedule to the Membership Application Form.
